Duplex & Super Duplex Grades

Twice the Strength. Superior Corrosion Resistance.

Duplex stainless steels have a two-phase microstructure (austenite + ferrite) giving approximately twice the yield strength of standard austenitic grades. Ideal for offshore, chemical processing, and seawater applications.

The Duplex Advantage

Ferrite Content Testing

Every duplex fitting comes with ferrite content test results (20–65% ferrite range). Critical for ensuring the duplex microstructure is correct β€” wrong ferrite content means loss of the key properties.

NACE MR0175 Compliant

All duplex supply can be certified to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service (Hβ‚‚S-containing) applications in oil and gas. Specify at time of inquiry.

Impact Tested at -46Β°C

Standard duplex supply includes Charpy V-notch impact testing at -46Β°C, meeting the requirements of offshore codes (NORSOK, Shell DEP).

Offshore Documentation Package

We are experienced in supplying to NORSOK, Shell DEP, and ADNOC specifications. Full documentation package including ferrite, NACE, impact, and PMI available.

PMI on Every Piece

Duplex and super duplex look identical to stainless steel. PMI (XRF analysis) on every fitting prevents grade mix-up β€” a critical safety requirement for offshore and chemical projects.

13+ Years Duplex Experience

We have supplied duplex fittings to projects in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. We understand the documentation requirements and quality expectations.

FAQs

Duplex Buttweld Fittings β€” Expert Answers

What is the difference between Duplex S31803 and S32205?

+
S31803 and S32205 are essentially the same grade with slightly different specification ranges. S32205 was introduced to tighten the composition range β€” specifically minimum chromium of 22% (vs 21% for S31803) and minimum molybdenum of 3% (vs 2.5%). In practice, most modern duplex 2205 material meets both S31803 and S32205 simultaneously. We supply material certified to both on request.

What is PREN and why does it matter for duplex fittings?

+
PREN stands for Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number β€” a formula (Cr + 3.3Γ—Mo + 16Γ—N) that predicts resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride environments. Higher PREN = better pitting resistance. Standard 316L has PREN ~24. Duplex 2205 has PREN >35. Super Duplex 2507 has PREN >42. For offshore and seawater applications, minimum PREN of 40 is typically specified β€” which requires Super Duplex.

Why is duplex limited to 300Β°C maximum service temperature?

+
At temperatures above 300Β°C, duplex stainless steels undergo sigma phase embrittlement β€” the ferrite phase transforms to a brittle intermetallic phase, causing significant loss of toughness and corrosion resistance. This is not reversible without full solution annealing. For high-temperature service above 300Β°C, standard austenitic grades (SS 316, SS 321) or alloy steels are the correct choice.

Do you supply duplex fittings to NORSOK standards?

+
Yes. We have experience supplying duplex and super duplex buttweld fittings to NORSOK MDS D44, D45, and related material data sheets. NORSOK typically requires additional testing β€” ferrite content, impact testing at -46Β°C, and NACE MR0175 compliance. Please mention NORSOK requirements clearly at the time of inquiry so we can include all necessary tests in the offer.
