IBR stands for Indian Boiler Regulations, 1950 — the Indian statutory code governing the design, manufacture, inspection, and use of boilers and boiler components in India. It is administered by the Chief Inspector of Boilers in each state.
For buttweld pipe fittings, IBR applies when the fitting is used in boiler steam service — specifically piping that carries steam at pressures exceeding 3.5 kg/cm² (50 psi) or temperatures exceeding 99°C. All power plant boiler piping, main steam lines, and hot reheat lines in India require IBR compliance.

The primary IBR document for fittings. Issued by an IBR approved inspecting authority (Chief Inspector of Boilers or approved third-party inspector). Confirms the fitting meets IBR requirements for the specified service conditions.
EN 10204 3.1 MTC with full chemical and mechanical properties. The MTC must confirm compliance with the material standard (ASTM A234 for alloy steel) and include heat number for traceability.
Confirms dimensional compliance with ASME B16.9. Particularly important for wall thickness — IBR specifies minimum wall thickness requirements for boiler service.
For certain IBR applications, hydrostatic pressure testing of fittings is required. Test pressure is typically 1.5× design pressure. Certificate issued after successful test.

Always specify IBR requirement at the time of inquiry — not after order placement. IBR documentation requires specific inspection arrangements and cannot be added retrospectively.
